Jeffcoat Delays Decision

Apparently, Jackson’s official visit to OU, and the following in-home visit with what probably seemed like the entire OU coaching staff, gave him something to think about as he’s postponed his decision from the previously scheduled date of January 31st.

This can only be good news for OU as he was considered to be all but locked for UT.  That said, I would honestly laugh my ass off if the Red River war for Jeffcoat’s commit ended up with him being a Houston Cougar.

BREAKING NEWS: 

BrickHorn caught it first.  As I noted above, this info was as of 01.27.2010 (i.e. yesterday).  How quickly things can change.  Jackson Jeffcoat will be announcing his commitment to UT tomorrow morning.  Apparently, OU didn’t give him that much to think about.  Taking more time makes sense as being in OU’s favor.  Speeding the process along only seems to indicate that he went back to his original decision and is ready to stick with it.  This is actually a courtesy to whomever he didn’t choose, because they can now fill that spot with someone else.

    Uh, what? Dallasnews.com says Jeffcoat will announce tomorrow at 10 AM. That’s a move up from Sunday, when he had originally planned to announce.

    Ripley, OU board “insiders” are saying Jeffcoat has informed both coaching staffs that he’s heading to Austin.

    It sucks, but I think this is still a courtesy to OU. We’ve still got a scholarship to give, and we’re not having to hold it for him. Jeffcoat could always take more time to “think it over”, but if he’s leaning UT’s way, then stalling is essentially just a dick move for a prima donna. He’s from a family where your word is your bond, and “me first” isn’t the order of the day. I still think OL needs to be the priority. There’s a Juco OT (Cullen?) that was down to OU and someone else, and I think he needs to be the final piece of the puzzle.

    Nate, for once I hope you’re right.

    I still don’t understand how you guys have any ’ships left. You’ve already got 29 on board? I know you have underclassmen leaving, but that just makes up for the lack of attrition stemming from your arrested players that you don’t kick off the team. All bullshit aside, UT has no room to talk right now.

    The Jeffcoats have handled this the right way, as has Hicks, and it makes it easier to root for the kid no matter who he chooses.

    Was Jim Ross one of the “insiders,” or Toby Keith?

    I think Cullen is going to USC.

    Corey Nelson would look good in that final spot.
